Learning

Building responsible, resilient and capable young people.

Extension, acceleration and enrichment for students ready to be challenged.

We differentiate to ensure every student is challenged at the right level. For students ready to stretch further, our Learning Enhancement program offers extension, acceleration and enrichment beyond the standard curriculum.

Academic enhancement across the years

  • Year 7 Learning Program allows fluidity across ability groups, with small-group literacy enhancement.
  • Year 9 offers English and Mathematics extension, plus a whole-cohort student learning profile test (verbal, numerical, abstract and spatial reasoning). The profile informs Year 10 course selection and a round of one-to-one counselling.
  • Year 10 Advanced Mathematics prepares students for the harder VCE Mathematics studies.
  • VCE acceleration: eligible Year 10 and Year 11 students may take an accelerated VCE Unit 3–4 study, often in Mathematics, as a sixth subject contributing to ATAR.

External competitions and programs

  • Australian Mathematics and Australian Science Competitions
  • University of Melbourne Engineering and IT enrichment programs
  • La Trobe University outreach programs
  • Kwong Lee Dow Young Scholars Program at the University of Melbourne

Academic Sports Program

Open from Year 10, the Academic Sports Program offers coaching, university visits, and the opportunity to represent the College in serious sporting competition.

Beyond academics

  • Instrumental Music Program (Years 7–12)
  • Inter-school debating program
  • National Constitutional Convention (Canberra)
  • Student leadership: SRC, House Leaders, College Captains (who sit on College Council)
